March 18 – April 5.

Opening Reception: Friday March 20, 6-8pm

In 2025, Melbourne artist Sheena Mathieson undertook an arts residency at Cove Park in Scotland, her father’s homeland – the chance of a lifetime!

Ever interested in shape and colour, Sheena was drawn to the smoothed-out pebbles on the shores of Loch Long, the steely grey water of the loch, and the rocky outcrops and shifting sky above. She wandered, gleaned, printed and painted and discovered and was inspired by Scottish art and artists.

On return to Australia, Sheena has continued her exploration of colour and shape, with a changed palette, a different approach in terms of application of colour and a different appreciation of her surrounds. She has discovered similar, but not the same pebbles, and different though familiar views.

Her collection of paintings on paper and wood in To and From Scotland with Love at Gallery Unbound displays an array of quite muted colours made from just yellow, red and blue, and white. In some, the overlaying of colour and shape produces a sense of being on the shores of a lake or sea, whilst in others there is the essence of a view and perhaps a suggestion of aloneness.
