Grevillea Robusta

The Grevillea Robusta (Silky Oak) is a fast-growing upright evergreen tree that happens to have set up home in our back yard.  Grevillea Robusta resembles a grand pine tree when fully grown. It produces long bottlebrush shaped golden-orange flowers in spring and summer. It was my father’s favourite tree.

The Real Mccoy

In severely pruning our backyard Grevillea Robusta in April 2021 I took one of the cut branches, inked it up and printed it. I also completed a rapid drawing which became the start of the series/range of monotypes which you see below.

A monotype is a one-of-a-kind print that exists in its own ‘unique state’. Monotypes are prized because of their unique qualities. I make my monotypes using a large press at my home studio in North Fitzroy. I love creating monotypes – the surprise element as they are lifted; the WOW factor.

These works are printed on 220gsm Fabriano Rosapina paper measuring 50 x 70 cm. They are poster-like, vibrant, authentic works.
