I am super proud to announce that my artwork entitled ‘In honour of’ is now on show as part of the Merri-bek Summer Show: A Climate for Change.
Now on at the Counihan Gallery, Sydney Road, Brunswick, until 9 December 2023.
My work is worth seeing in person. I have been inspired by the shape of a horse from a 1911 painting by German artist Franz Marc, who wrote from the World War I front, about the sensibility of the pure animal; the most noble, the horse.
I have stripped back, sanded and gessoed an old honours board, then used primary coloured conte pastel to create imagery of a rotating, motif of my version of Marc’s horse. I have then polished the surface so that the amorphous work shimmers.
We are at a crucial time in history when there is no doubt that we must transform how we do things. We must stop buying new. There is so much to reuse, fix, to pass on. We must shift our ways, in honour of all creatures, the old, each other, the traditional owners, the less fortunate and all beings in our very tenuous and interconnected universe.
