My entry for the National Capital Art Prize: A decorated wine box (2 panels) containing collaged portraits in watercolour on paper and found gold paper. Polished with carnauba wax.
Shelley came about after I heard a whispering version of Shelley Duvall, sung by Geoffrey O’Connor and Nicole Thibault.
Who, I wondered, is Shelley Duvall?
A woman with large eyes; someone I recognise from movies of the 80’s although I can’t say which ones. An actress, a film producer. More widely known for her role in the thriller The Shining.
Shelley fell from Hollywood’s grace. Perhaps because she challenged a famous director.
She strikes a chord with me – her face tells me stories of hardship. She is real.
I bring Shelley back into the limelight.
